Elon Musk’s Starlink Delegation Meets IT Minister to Discuss Licensing in Pakistan

Pakistan Minister of State for Information and Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja recently met Starlink’s team to discuss the progress in licensing satellite-based internet services.

Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk, is already registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). However, the government is still working on finalizing regulations for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite operations.

The launch of Starlink in Pakistan is aimed at providing internet connectivity to remote and underserved areas. Currently, some IT companies in the country use Starlink services for reliable internet access. However, the high cost of the service remains a concern for many adopters.

Starlink needs the approval of Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (SUPARCO) and Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) before it can officially start operations in Pakistan

The development is part of the government’s efforts to improve internet connectivity across the country. With advanced satellite technology, Starlink has the ability to provide fast and reliable internet access, especially in areas where traditional internet services are not available

The government is working closely with Starlink to meet all legal requirements. Once approved, Starlink will play a key role in improving Pakistan’s IT infrastructure and bridging the digital divide.

This initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to improve connectivity through the use of advanced technologies and support the growing demands of its IT sector.
